I just finished it and I’m a mess! I wish we were watching it together!

You know who I think was awesome – in her less than 5 minutes of screen time? Anna Lee (who, of course, would end up being Lila Quartermaine on General Hospital … not to mention one of the nuns in Sound of Music) as George Sanders’ long-suffering wife. What she is able to convey – her knowledge of her husband’s philandering, her kindness towards yet another duped woman, her sadness for her own humiliated state … it’s all there. Such a good scene!!

I love this film so much I squealed aloud when I stumbled across it in a department store. Clutching it to my chest, I had to scamper off to the checkout immediately because THE ENTIRE DVD SECTION was looking at me. People came over from Electronic Goods, I was so loud. Presumably to check I wasn’t a maniac about to have a frothing-mouthed fit in the shop.

I love, love, love the way they picked two male leads who could convey so much sexuality through tone and body language alone. George Sanders doesn’t turn out to be the best of men for her, but I love that it didn’t go the traditional path of choosing someone who on face value is so obviously inferior to a dead captain that one gags every time he’s onscreen.

I love Anna Lee too. That scene breaks my heart – her kindness! Her soft admission that it’s not the first time! She does so much there.
