An Awesome Thing About My DVD of “Skyward Christmas”:

It’s better than most of the acting (except for Ben Marley) and certainly better than the script.

It is that there are 1980s-era commercials included. Keith, Dan and I were GOBSMACKED watching this. It is amazing to see how our entire culture, it feels like, has changed. It was like ruminating over ancient hieroglyphics or something – and this is from my lifetime! Pretty scary.

Here is an advertisement for an upcoming night of television on the same network.

Glorious. I so want to go back in time and see all of these shows.

    Oh dear lord!
My family watched Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters every week!
    What was wrong with us?

Psst…I secretly wanted to be Louise and I couldn’t stand Earlene because she played the dingbat! LOL

  2. red says:

de – hahahahahaha I watched it every week too! I remember it as being charming – what the hell was wrong with me? Was it charming??? What was going on???

  3. De says:

We were young…and we probably didn’t have cable…
or internet. Or video games. Or lives.
    LOL!!

  4. red says:

It was awesome to have NO options, wasn’t it??? Made life so simple!

  5. Jewels says:

I liked Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters and I wish we had musical variety shows on TV today. I cannot stand all the reality shows and do not watch them.

  6. red says:

I also wish for a return of musical variety shows, great format!! – but I also love reality TV and cannot live without America’s Next Top Model.

    Both things can be true!!

  7. el dee says:

My first husband had Doug Henning’s chin…

    Doug Henning …. shiver.

But I LOVED those Mandrell sisters. And in my memory everything they ever wore was shiny and off the shoulders.

    2 questions:
    1) were there any local commercials?
    2) would you be willing to upload videos of them to youtube?
my fiance and i are constantly trolling youtube for commercials from our youth. it would be awesome to see these!

Hi, I am a blind computer user looking for a copy of skyward Christmas. I listened to skyward and was able to follow it well from the dialog. Just wondered if anyone knows where I can find a copy? Thanks in advance for any info. Mike.

      • sheila says:

Sorry – it’s not out on DVD or VHS. Someone I knew sent me the copy he had taped off the television way back when it first aired.

The series was not picked up, so it’s vanished without a trace.

  10. Mark says:

My girlfriend has a couple sisters that are about 20 years younger than us For years we’ve forced then to watch DVDs of all the weird-ass stuff that entertained us in our youth. The general reaction is usually “How could you watch this crap?” We explained to them that we only had three channels back then and didn’t really have a choice.

This has happened so often, the conversation has devolved into:
    “What the hell?”
    “Three channels.”
    “Oh yeah.”

  11. red says:

    Mark – hahahahahahahahahaha
