Pretty damn creepy. I actually screamed twice while watching it. Terrifying. An Irish ghost story. A haunted house. A man gone mad. I enjoyed it.

Will never see this film. NEVER. Good review, though!!!
hahahaha Yes, it is verrrrry scary.
Thanks, Bren!!
Is it me or is this basically the same premise as The Shining?
Kind of. But not really. Some of it was so hallucinatory it reminded me of Jacob’s Ladder. I thought the lead guy had been drugged half the time.
It’s definitely about marriage – in the same way The Shining is.
and there is also a creepy small boy in it. So there’s that.
But that whole scene you describe with the typewriter, and the ax, and the maze outside and Scatman Crothers?!? C’mon, Sheil. Ya gotta admit, coincidence???
I am so easily punk’d, Brendan. I read your comment and was like, “Wait … what is he talking about??”
You’re good!
Hee hee!!!
The Shelley Duvall cameo and the twin girls in blue dresses???
Yeah, I don’t know how I missed the similarity!
This review is the main reason why I could never ever ever be a film critic. I would have ZERO objectivity. Imagine a film reviewer who thought every single action movie was totally thrilling!
I think objectivity is over-rated! But I do know what you mean.
If overall something is good, then I don’t bitch and moan that some of it isn’t good. I know how hard it is to get anything made at all. Sometimes I do have to take that time after seeing something that was really pleasing and ask myself: “Okay. Let’s pick it apart. Let’s ask what didn’t work.” almost like you do in an acting class, you know? There’s always something there to talk about.
Sometimes I read reviews and I think that the critic stopped liking anything enthusiastically years and years ago.
If I ever stop being able to be an enthusiastic audience, I will stop doing it. Not worth it. I love the art form too much.
