Receiving this in the mail today, even though I bought it myself, makes it feel like Christmas morning. I haven’t even watched any of it yet – but the prospect of seeing Cary Grant in Hot Saturday – a movie I have not even seen!! and I have seen as much as I possibly can- is so exciting that I am on the verge of nervous collapse.

Wish you luck with your book :)
I had a chance to check out Hot Saturday last week – it’s a sweet little movie, and notable for the fact that the Cary Grant persona was already in full bloom in 1932. His character is miles more sophisticated than the bumpkins around him and the film shrewdly plays to that cultural differential.
Brad – Wow, I’m so glad to hear your thoughts on it! I believe the earliest Grant I have seen is Blonde Venus – and then of course She Done Him Wrong, the year after Hot Saturday – where it’s kind of hard to believe that that is the same actor who would do Bringing Up Baby and The Awful Truth, etc.
Really looking forward to seeing it (and the other films in the collection as well).
You might be interested to know that I’ve watched The Awful Truth twice this week!! I’ve seen that film so many times and it never fails. Showed it to my parents last night – they both adored it. It was hilarious, every few minutes my sister and I were like “Oh oh oh, this is the funniest scene!”.
Jesus, Sheila, for the first line and a half, I thought you were going to tell me you got “Father Damien: the Leper Priest” in the mail.
Therese – I’m howling!!!!
