Lyrics here.
Performed at Lounge Ax. Ah, Lounge Ax!! I miss that place. It can be seen, however, in the scene in High Fidelity when they all go to the club to see Lisa Bonet perform. That’s Lounge Ax. I like to watch that scene, from time to time, to visit my own past … in a place that no longer exists – but there it is: captured on screen!

me: here
Pat: whats this?
me: its my friend Sheila’s name…she sings ur song better than u do…u should call her on stage to sing it.
Pat: Sheila O’Malley?
me: yes.
Pat: Ok, i will.
….twenty minutes later from the stage…
Pat: (reading from a bar napkin)…Sheila O’Malley..get ur ass up here and sing with me!
It’s all your fault!!!
God, Mitchell – you even barged your way backstage to basically order him around. Ha!!
Thank you, and curse you.
Also the fact that you could say to him, “She sings your song better than you do” and he’d be like, “Cool! Gotta get her up here!” – speaks volumes about who he is.
And also please let’s remember that you gave him a carefully wrapped black and white photo of Nipsy Russell for Christmas one year.
HAHAHAHA Do you remember that???
Or was it Rue McClanahan?
Loved Lounge Ax! It was a very sad time when they closed. I used to be in a dark rock shoegazey band called Carbon Black that played there once. I thought I was Nick Cave in a dress. Boot on the monitor, etc. etc.
Looks like you done the place proud. But um… what’s up with that liberty bell behind you?
Therese – So cool, I love that you played there! Just an awesome awesome club.
Pat loved kitschy stuff like that -He was always bringing crap like that to his shows. This must have been in July – hence the patriotic themes.
Therese – when did you play there??
Hmm, must’ve been around 1998. I think my car had recently broken down, as I seem to remember inviting the guy from the Honda dealership. (He showed up, too – and fixed the car.) I still have an old purple velvet address book with Lounge Ax’s phone number in it. I would bug them weekly about gigs, then finally it paid off.
How long ago was this photo? That’d be funny if we crossed over.
This is 1995 – right before I moved to New York. we almost crossed!
Wild!!
I loved how it was right across from the Biograph too!
Sigh.
I miss the place and the time.
That is all.
I know, Ann. Me too.
Sigh.
/you gave him a carefully wrapped black and white photo of Nipsy Russell for Christmas one year./
/Or was it Rue McClanahan?/
I’ll bet you anything that will be the funniest thing I read today.
i think it was Nipsey!…we were idiots every monday for years!
hahahahahahaha
