The building where I went to grade school is currently a Covid-testing center. It’s also been a daycare. It is no longer an elementary school. But the cement playgrounds surrounding the building remain. Swingset with no swings. Sandbox with no sand. It’s kind of a haunting place. A map of the United States was painted on the pavement – how many years ago I don’t know – but the colors haven’t faded. There are all kinds of interesting cracks and abysses now, appearing across the “land”. Oklahoma has some big problems.

This looks like an Abstract Expressionist painting.
(I really enjoy your photos, by the way. Thanks for posting them.)
Thanks, Bill! There are so many random ones in my folders from over the years – it’s been fun digging them up – glad you like!
When my kids were little (I want to say around 3 and 6) I took them on a “field trip” to my old elementary school. When I was there (1967-72) the enrollment was booming, so in 5th and 6th grade my classrooms were in portable buildings. Those portables were long gone by the time I took the boys for a visit, but the asphalt path leading to them was still there – which created a very eerie effect – a “path to nowhere.”
Jeff – wow, portable buildings! that’s wild. yes, the playground is very eerie now – basketball hoops without nets, etc. I’m just glad the place hasn’t been torn down. It was so weird going there to get tested for Covid – those old hallways! I went to kindergarten there – just a very strange feeling.
