Photo of the Day: Storm, literal and metaphorical

This is my boyfriend (at the time), and I think this was on a high plain in North Dakota. We were there in September, October, and the weather was wild and unpredictable. We either stayed in tents or in our beat-up camper van. There were times when we were far away from anything even remotely considered civilization. This was an unforgettable day, because we could see the storm approaching from far away (as East Coast people, we never get that perspective). It was right around the time I took the pic, when we heard this sound … a sound we couldn’t quite place (since neither of us had heard anything like it outside of the movies) … When we saw what was making the sound, we were awe-struck. And then we realized, “Uhm, yeah, this storm is gonna be huge, we gotta get the fuck out of here.” We were in the process of breaking up during this whole time of wandering – and why one of us didn’t say “Fuck it, I’m taking the bus back to Rhode Island, this is OVER” is one of the many mysteries of life. I love this picture. But boy, that storm …

You can see why I think that Take Shelter is practically a documentary. Because if you’re in a certain mindset, the pathetic fallacy is not fallacious at all. It’s reality.
