Review: Dating & New York (2021)

A rom-com for the millennial set. This is not me saying that. It’s marketed that way. While a lot of this flat out did not work for me, I did like the script and the observations of Jonah Feingold (writer-director) on aspects of millennial-generation life. He’s “one of them” so he can say it, AND it has more authority than outside snarky observation. For example, at one point a guy calls a girl in basically a booty call, or a last-minute “let’s get together right now.” She says she can’t, because she’s already lying in bed, and she’s “just going to watch Harry Potter.” lol My 20something dating/sex life took place without the Internet. So it is interesting to see what that all is about through another generation’s lens. The sidekicks are more interesting than the leads here, so that’s a major problem. Anyway, I reviewed for Ebert!
