My second move in a year

Library getting packed up again.

I’m too old for this shit.

So this bookcase is half-packed and what is there is random, but it makes a pretty funny collage.

— Dad’s book on Anglo-Irish literature (dedicated to Mum)
— my grandfathers copy of the Federalist Papers
— the Sewanee Review Irish Letters issue (with my essay about Dad and Yeats and my siblings – my first published piece)
— Criterion’s Bringing Up Baby
— DVD of The Assistant
— Lubitsch’s Trouble in Paradise, also Criterion
— my dad’s copy of Proust’s magnum opus (one volume anyway)
— Liz Phair’s memoir
— a bunch of different scholars weigh in on Elvis
— Shakespeare’s sonnets. I read one a day, every morning.
— Ellen Willis
— Manny Farber
— Pauline Kael
— Annie Proulx
— David Foster Wallace

This is Me in a nutshell. Like, every base covered.

This photo should be my online dating profile pic. Imagine the people who would respond. You just couldn’t predict! I’d get some interesting dates out of it, that’s for sure.

What a pain. I hope the new space is longer-lasting.

I moved last Wednesday and still can’t unpack my books because the baseboards and sockets weren’t finished by the now-fired contractor. Can’t put bookcases against the walls. The new guy shows up when he says he will and does good work, so maybe next week. Our cat Adrienne has to explore every opened cardboard box, so something gets knocked over about once a day. An adventure, a tedious adventure, moving is.

    I loved Liz’s memoir.

Wow, you just moved too! Not being unable to unpack books is so bad! I may have to wait a bit too. Thank goodness, though, that my storage unit made it through the recent Henri storm without any flooding – I know a couple of people who have lost the majority of their stuff – and irreplaceable things too – like boxes of letters and photos. I keep all that stuff with me, I’m too paranoid.

I love Adrienne exploring – ha! Cats go crazy for boxes!

and yeah I loved Liz’s memoir. apparently a second one is coming, focusing more on her music career. I was unaware of just how hostile people were to her big studio album – an album I love. she said that in some circles she still isn’t forgiven. Oh get OVER it, people. Grow WITH her!

      she’s such a good writer!
