Kripke knows what he’s doing. He knows who’s watching. He takes care. He keeps it in line with the new series and aesthetic, but he knows we out here will recognize the nod.

oh I also wanted to ask, have you watched the extras too? the Calypso and From a Logicale Point of View clips? how wonderful are they?? I espcially loved the last one.
It was supposte go be under the viewing diary post, sorry :)
I love the SPN referneces Kripke put in the episodes
Yes, so many SPN references! and they don’t detract for people who might not have seen SPN. They’re just little “nods” throughout and I love it.
No, I haven’t seen the extras – are they on YouTube?
oh you mush watch them!
yes they are on YT

There was a glimpse of the Solid Gold appearance – with Jensen “rapping” – and it was so embarrassing!
yeah they posted a longer version. It’s so cringy!
I could barely concentrate on it I was so embarrassed.
Thank you for the links!
Okay, I cannot stop laughing.
The smoking in the first one! it’s so ridiculous!
right??
I can’t stop watching these clips.
I don’t know how they filmed it without dying of laughter!
Right? The dancers, too! I’d love to see the out-takes. Because Soldier Boy is so self-serious – he is NOT self-deprecating (like Dean) – so Jensen really has to hold it together.
Like, in both of those clips, Soldier Boy thinks he is killing it.
They did an amazing job of recreating Solid Gold – also making it look like an old VHS tape, with the ripples on the screen!
The smile at the end. Soldier Boy is such a cheese ball!
I wasn’t familiar with Solid Gold but I looked it up after the episode air and it seems they did great job.
Also with the Robert Mitchum look.
I grew up watching Solid Gold. The cheesiness was unbelievable – but it was a good old-fashioned variety show – and I really miss those!
and Marilyn McCoo was the host – and she’s a wonderful performer – so she always got to do a number too.
I’ll have to look Marilyn McCoo up :)
She was the lead female singer of the 5th Dimension – you’ve probably heard their cover of “Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine” from Hair – they also did an amazing cover of “Ode to Billy Joe”, where they all do the different voices of the family around the table. Here they are performing Aquarius: she’s the lead vocalist:

and here she is, singing the theme song of Solid Gold – complete with those VHS-transfer-ripples!! It’s cheesy – but it gave a boost to her solo career!

I just looked her up – she’s still alive! 78 years old!
Thank you! Yes, I know this version from Hair, didn’t recognise her name. She has a great voice!
Seeing the Solid Gold one i as fun, they really did a great job recreating it đ
In case you missed it – the complete Logical Point of View sung by Soldier Boy. (Not the brief clip shown on The Boys.)

John – lol!! Yes, someone sent it to me and it is so hilarious. The smoking! so cheesy and embarrassing.
Thanks for sending. Loving him on the series.
