Childhood memories are most definitely brought back to me from the cheese-ball photos in Lileks’ Ice Capades gallery. I loved the Ice Capades. I am a child of the 1970s. I went. I stared at the disco lights. I adored the glitter. And now … looking at these photos (and reading Lileks’ commentary – you have got to read his analysis of the photos) – I cry tears of laughter.

I read “Ice Capades” and immediately think “Carla’s first husband on Cheers got crushed by a Zamboni.”
hahahahaha
I remember that … what was his name again??
Eddie LeBec, Bruins goalie, played by Jay Thomas.
Dave J.- I LOVE that you know those facts!!!!!!! You rock!!!!!!!!!
Sheila, did you really go to the Ice Capades? I can’t even believe this! I got jipped.
Jean- My only experience with Ice Capades is when I was five years old at the Providence Civic Center. It must have been some Walt Disney theme, because there were spinning teacups. I was picked from the audience to ride inside one of the teacups. Apparently, right as I was about to step onto the ice with a skating Disney character, I totally freaked out and ran back to my mother. I BLEW IT!!! To this day, I wish to ride in a spinning teacup on ice. Grrrrr.
Jean – I’m pretty sure I went with either Greta Johnson or Shannon Quinlan … you know. Those jazzy Matunuck Beach Club families.
