My insane and wonderful cousin Mike flew across the country to see the Patriots. Hi-jinks ensued. ESPN was there.
One small note:
I love how “cousins” appear in the story. If you’re talking about an O’Malley, there will always be myriad “cousins”.

No kiddin’, you Irish types. The friend I was staying with in NYC is dating an Irish guy (first generation). He’s got ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY NINE FIRST COUSINS. I have ten, and some people consider that a lot.
129. Now that is insane. I don’t think I know that many people by name.
I have no first cousins, actually. My grandparents must not have been very good Catholics, they each only had one child.
Either that, or they were perfect Catholics, depending on the way you look at things, Bill.
I love that he flew in for the game – my neighbors moved to NY and my first question when I learned he was leaving town was “are you keeping your season tickets?” Of course he was, so i still get to attend the yearly “wives game”! Go Pats!
Emily,
Whatever, no cousins means the grandparents had few people to buy Christmas gifts for…my sisters and I had it made.
On Mom’s side I have 4 cousins, plus 3 second cousins (there were 6 of us total including my brother and I). All boys, and me, and about 4 years age difference between the oldest and the youngest. Which left me 3 options when there were family gatherings: be a tomboy and play with the boys, play by myself, or hang out with the adults and listen to adult dribble. I chose the first option, which meant whenever we played football I did well because nobody wanted to hurt the girl :) On Dad’s side there’s 10 of us, plus 4 second cousins. I have some cousins I see and we exchange very few words, nothing personal, we’re just not close. And I have cousins whom I am very close to, and I love spending time with them.
My friend Brian works for the Pats- and if they win the Super Bowl, he gets a ring. Almost worth it for being out in the cold for Saturday’s game…
