Chez Josephine

My friend Dan has a wonderful piece on Josephine Baker up on Fandor. I’ve been to Chez Josephine many times, and have met Jean-Claude Baker, the proprietor (one of Baker’s many adopted children). He is always there at the restaurant, and a gracious host, and really does treat everyone who walks through that door like a member of a tribe. You are welcomed almost personally, like you’re an old friend. You are there for a reason – not just to eat and drink – but to celebrate Josephine. It’s a quaint exotic place in the middle of the bustle of 42nd and 9th, a haven of art and photography, good wine, and good company. Go check out Dan’s piece!
