    Thank you, Sheila!!

    Once again a marvellous quiz.

Please send any bills for repairs to your server to the usual address.

  2. red says:

It was pretty slow there … also, I commented so often with my “yes” “yes” “yes” – that my own blog kicked me off as an obvious spammer. hahaha

  3. peteb says:

    Hahaha!

    That’s a sure sign of a successful afternoon/evening.

  4. Stevie says:

Lots and lots of fun as always, Sheila! I was thinking maybe the next guess-the-movie quiz could be character names instead of quotes. What do you think?

    Anyway, THANKS!!! Awesome fun.

  5. red says:

Stevie – you mean like: Norma Desmond. And people would have to tell the movie??

    That would be fun!

  6. Stevie says:

    Exactly!

    Veda Pierce
    Travis Bickle
    Tracy Lord

  7. red says:

Excellent idea. Maybe next month I’ll put it together – you’ll have to send me ideas!!

  8. Stevie says:

    Amanda Bonner
    Brad Allen
    Eve Harrington

  9. Stevie says:

    Love to!

  10. Michael Doherty says:

Thanks for doing this! Just one of the many reasons why I love to come to this site! Now…I’m off to the Pub Quiz!

  11. Cullen says:

Thanks Sheila. That was quite fun.

  12. JFH says:

Great fun… and I hate Stevie… one of these days, buddy, one on one…

  13. Alex Nunez says:

Awesome, Sheila. It was a ton of fun, and I’ve got some rental ideas now, too.

Now, if you don’t mind, Tony Curtis is arriving at the Sea Tiger with the nurses, so I better go…

  14. Alex Nunez says:

    Oh, and another thing:

The reason Hollywood continues to produce new movies is because Stevie has seen every one already produced.

  15. Patrick says:

I only answered one and it was exhausting to watch it all unfold. You’re all nuts!

    **OFF TOPIC**

    Sheila —
Your cousin Mike is in next week’s TV Guide (the one with Marcia Cross on the cover). There’s a picture of him with his megaphone directing his season finale.

    **WAYYYY OFF TOPIC**

Sorry I could find no other place to post this message.

    Good evening,

I was doing a web search on William Inge’s play “Picnic” and came across your web blog on your experience. I was fascinated with the way you described the character Millie. I must add that I am also very fortunate to have a great mentor of mine that will be the director of the show, and I must agree that it should be a great experience for me as well.

That all being said, I have been asked to perform the role of Alan this summer at a theater in Maine and was trying to find new, and hopefully, interesting ways to prepare for roles. I was wondering if you would be willing to share a discussion on your views of this character and any of the others. You know, making lists and what skills I could adapt to make this role everything Mr. Inge may have intended.

That’s about all I can think of right now. If you don’t have the time or the interest I can understand (Your blog does seem quite popular!!!), but on the other hand I think you might just enjoy discussing this play and your craft again.

    Thanks for you time.

**NOW BACK TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM**

  18. red says:

Chuck – feel free to email me:

    redhead2@sheilaomalley.com

I would love to discuss Alan with you, as well as William Inge. Alan is a great part! Congrats!

  19. red says:

I’ll just say this, chuck: for me, the key to alan’s character is the moment at the beginning of Act II – when Hal arrives to take Millie to the picnic, and there is all this activity, and cakes being baked, and romance in the air, etc – all excited about the picnic – In the stage directions, it says that when Hal and Millie start to dance, Alan (who has been helping Flo in the kitchen) comes out onto the porch, wearing an APRON, and watches the dancing. He is a “good boy”. Almost to the point of emasculation. Inge was gay, remember – he was making a point here about masculinity, and its wildness, and how attractive that is to females. Alan, a guy who wears an apron and “helps Flo in the kitchen” is NOT attractive to Madge – and this is his tragedy.

It’s allllllll in the apron!! :)

But please – email me – I would love to discuss more.

  20. Nightfly says:

You’d do well to take Red up on this, she’s very insightful.

    *** ON TOPIC ***

Thanks for running the quiz, Sheila! It’s amazing how quick everyone was with answers, comebacks, etc. This not only reminded me of a bunch of great movies, but also of a bunch of additional quotes. We may be looking at a Round Two sometime!

  21. red says:

Nightfly – every time I do one of these things, it’s so much fun that I get delusions of grandeur and think: “I should make this a monthly thing!” But it does take a lot of work to prepare for the damn thing, and I don’t think I could make that happen. BUT – I definitely will do another one. I just LOVE it.

  22. red says:

Oh and Lisa – I haven’t seen the picture – I will have to grab it.

Yeah – the series is ending. Much upheaval and mixed feelings. I wish I could have seen a taping while I was out there!

  23. Cullen says:

    On cousin Mike:
It’d be nice to see him branch out into some different characters. I’ve always enjoyed the show, and he was one of the main reasons why.

  24. red says:

Cullen – did you ever end up seeing The Perfect Man? It’s a variation on the Mike O’Malley theme – only he’s MUCH more of a goofball in that film – so so so funny. Weeping at the Styx tribute concert, etc.

I kinda wanted Heather Locklear to choose HIM and not Chris Noth.

    But then again, I’m biased.

  25. Cullen says:

Oh yeah, I saw it. Thought the whole Styx thing was FANTASTIC.

  26. Lisa says:

I was wondering if that was being taped when you were out there!

  27. red says:

And when he got all anal about the floor mats in his car and made her take her shoes off … like he got TOTALLY serious and neurotic for like 2 seconds – so so funny

  28. Lisa says:

I love love LOVE his ESPN commercials!

I always liked his show, too. But I always wondered if the wardrobe people hated Liza Snyder, since they dressed her so AWFULLY. Poor girl. It didn’t help, either, that Jean Louisa Kelly was always wearing spaghetti-straps.

  29. red says:

Lisa – I met Jean during my trip out there. She and Mike are really good friends, and their kids have play-dates and all that stuff. She’s as sweet as you would imagine!!

And yeah – his ESPN commercials are so so good – I would love to have them all on disc, like all in one place.

Mike … wanna get on that for me????
