2011 R.I.P.

I saw the TCM Remembers spot last night and it was so beautifully done it brought me to tears. I love a dead-person’s montage. I didn’t write up every person who died this year, but here are links to the following tributes, small and large, that I did to some of our greatest talents who passed on this year.

I will miss them all.

Pete Postlethwaite

Tura Satana

Kenneth Mars

Jane Russell

Elizabeth Taylor

Lanford Wilson

Farley Granger

Sidney Lumet

Polly Platt

Steve Jobs

Harry Morgan

Christopher Hitchens

Vaclav Havel

Hitchens death really hit me hard. I really thought he’d be around for another twenty years. I’ve never read anybody who I so completely agreed or disagreed with in every article. I would give anything for his gift of language. Some of the things that he just through out there, without much thought, were better than most people could come up with in a lifetime.

Bob, I couldn’t agree with you more with regard to C. Hitchens’ passing. I don’t think I missed a single interview or debate of his thanks to YouTube. I feel he helped me better form my ability to reason–if late in life–and to look with a critical eye toward the clergy and religion in general.

Great and moving job by TCM people. Anne Francis was my first movie star puppy love. Smitten at age 13 while watching her in ‘Don’t Go Near the Water’.
