sniff, sniff … anyone remember this awesome Looney Tunes cartoon? There’s too much to even say about it … I just love it. I love the detailed observations (the kneading the kitty does on the dog’s back, the way the kitty circles around and around before lying down) … but also just the emotional power of this thing. I also love that the housewife is doing her chores wearing strappy stilettoes. What??
But I remember seeing that when I was a kid – and lo and behold here it is again. Beautiful!!!!
I TOTALLY remember that cartoon. I remember crying as a kid, and even now, I well up a little when I see it.
a little over a month ago, Arlo and Janis (the comic strip) referenced the cartoon. Apparently Arlo was telling Ludwig (the couple’s cat) the plot of the cartoon. In the last panel, you see Arlo holding a distressed-looking Ludwig, and Arlo makes a comment like, “Sometimes the best cartoons aren’t funny.”
i LOVE that cartoon!
Holy crap..I haven’t seen that in AGES. Do any of the networks even show looney tunes at all anymore? I miss them horribly…someday I may just splurge and get the DVD collections. For now I’ll scour youtube.
I love how the housewife just decides to randomly make cut out cookies..just for the hell of it. I’m proud of myself if I manage to do such a thing for a holiday.
Boomerang shows Looney Toons sometimes.
Man, that song takes me back. I hear it, and all of a sudden I’m five years old, sitting in the floor of my parents’ living room, eating dry Capt’n Crunch out of the box.
I saw the Smurfs the other day on Boomerang..forgot how stupid they were
Not only is this a classic, but Monsters Inc. does a fine homage when Sully thinks that Boo is in the compactor – it’s a shot-for-shot echo of the scene where the Dog thinks that Kitty is in the cookie batter.
And thank goodness for special features on DVD’s! The homage goes much further. Pixar shows a full storyboard presentation of an early draft of the script, and many of the sketches show a definite Chuck Jones influence. It helps to admire the best!
I hadn’t picked up on that – but I totally remember that scene in Monsters, Inc now!!
