Standing on Clark Street. Kate, Mitchell, myself, the baby carriage. Cell phone camera conversation.
Kate: “I don’t have a camera on my cell phone.”
Me: “You probably do. You just don’t know that you do.”
It came out SO much bitchier than I meant it. It came out in the snottiest tone imaginable, like I was snickering with condescending patience at Kate’s stupidity. Patient condescending smile. Gentle indulgent expression. “You probably do, Kate, you just don’t know that you do.”
Kate looked at me, and exclaimed, in protest, “SHEILA!” and then we all just started howling with laughter. And then I took a picture of Kate’s laughing face with my camera-phone.
Enjoying your blog. I am also from Chicago and like reading about our city, old movies, music, and literature. I am a fan of all 3!
