Great Improvisers

I love this site: Improv Interviews – I’ve barely gotten through any of it, but what a terrific idea: long multi-part interviews with influential improvisers. The interviewer does a terrific job, too. I like the questions asked – they are condusive to in-depth answers. So far I’ve only read the ones of the dudes I actually know from way back when – but there’s a ton more there. The most recent one is an interview with Gary Austin.

Fascinating. I got a nephew who auditioned and got into the Groundling workshop deal last year. Also on the improv track, Michael Richards always struck me as the opposite of an improv guy even before the famous rant. He was in a skit with Andy Kaufman in the 80s and wanted to deck Andy after Andy was Andy and didn’t follow the script.

Wow. Fascinating. I just read a whole bunch from some of that same crew. It’s interesting to hear about the evolution of IO and the Harold and to realize that I got to see parts of that evolution. Thanks for sharing this!

Ann – I know, right?? We were there right as it was happening. And it’s weird, but I kind of felt like something special or unusual was going on up there. I am completely not surprised that all of those guys have gone on to greater things.

For example – I so remember the whole “Three Mad Rituals” thing. Those guys were absolutely BRILLIANT.
