  1. Tracey K. says:

Ben Gazzara was one of my favorite actors, next to Rod Steiger. “Killing of Chinese Bookie” is still one of the best films I’ve ever seen.

  2. Falk was really a wonder. How many actors become that beloved? Falk was one of those guys who, when he appeared on the screen caused an audience reaction like the one Ebert has written about Christopher Walken – essentially “We’re sure to have a great time now that we know he’s in this.”

and I love how Cassavetes saw him as a leading man. He is a great leading man in Woman Under the Influence. Iconic.

      • Absolutely. He’s actually perfect for the part, but yeah, another director would think “Falk? He’s in comedies and gangster movies. We can’t have Lt. Columbo play Mabel’s wife” and hire a more obvious, stolid actor. But it’s so easy to believe Falk is Nick.
