Admiral Al Calavicci

I was a huge fan of Quantum Leap originally – but I had forgotten much of it, and have been re-watching episodes. The pilot is great. The script is pretty terrific, for a pilot, and I just find him so entertaining – that’s what I love about him. That’s the best thing about him. He’s entertaining.

90’s TV, I think of Quantum Leap, Twin Peaks and Homicide Life On The Street. Oh and Northen Exposure.

Loved Quantum Leap! Especially Stockwell’s character.
(also Homicide and Northern Exposure-excellent shows)

  3. red says:

Northern Exposure is still one of my favorite TV shows ever.

Are you working on a pilot? Lately, you have indicated you are working a lot. I must have missed the topic of your work. Is it for tv or film?

I loved the show when it was on, then didn’t see it again for maybe ten years. Then, one rainy winter day, SciFi Channel ran a few episodes in succession. Got the DVDs from Netflix…

Al was always one of my favorite parts of the show. Almost always funny, I loved how he treated this magnificent, world changing technology as a tremendous bother.

The interplay between Stockwell and Scott Bakula is one of my favorite combos in all teevee…

  6. red says:

Tommy – hahahahaha exactly. Like quantum leaping messed up with his lascivious complicated social life.

Homicide and Northern Exposure are two of my all-time favorites. Quantum Leap was sort of a guilty pleasure, but I did end up watching quite a few episodes…

I think I’ll finally bite the bullet and get a bootleg of The Boy With Green Hair, one of his best performances as a kid. That’s another film long overdue for dvd.

  9. red says:

Love Boy with the Green Hair – haven’t seen it in years, but it’s on my Netflix queue now. Seems like a lot of people have great fondness for that movie – I’m looking forward to seeing it again.

One thing I’m really bummed about – the version of The Secret Garden that he was in – from the 1940s – is NOT on DVD – or at least I can’t find it. I saw it as a kid, and it is emblazoned on my memory. I want to see it again – he was wonderful as the little crippled boy, but in general – I loved the movie.

  11. red says:

Just checked the IMDB page for secret garden – and there is a campaign out to get it released on DVD – you can get it on VHS, but obviously – with 2 of the stars of the film still alive – stockwell and OBrien, a DVD would be pretty cool – with possible commentary, and extras and interviews with them, etc.

Keep fingers crossed – this film should definitely make the transfer.

I loved Northern Exposure, too. I just wanted that place to be real. Plus, Janine Turner gave me butterflies.

  13. red says:

Eric – I so wanted that place to be real.
I just saw 110 in the Shade at the Roundabout – starring Audra McDonald and John Cullum, who played Holling on Northern Exposure, plays her father – I’ve seen him in a lot of Broadway shows, he’s a standard – it’s great to see him live!

That man has a great face.

  15. Jen W. says:

I loved the little faces that Stockwell would make as Al when he would hit his little light-up doohickey computer, and then roll his eyes and curse Ziggy. Ah….I miss that show.

  16. red says:

Right … also the CLOTHES that he shows up in!! I love that his bizarre wardrobe (you know, silver shoes, and strange billowy shirts etc etc ) is never explained. It becomes kind of a game, to see what getup he’ll show up in next.
