  1. Sheila O’Malley, you’re too kind. I am flattered that my post has been promoted to an extravaganza.

Also (and I hope I don’t get sent to comment detention for commenting on another post here instead of at the proper post) this past weekend I saw the Edward Hopper exhibit at the National Gallery and they had a short documentary playing on Hopper narrated by Steve Martin (that would be the other post I was referring to). Steve talked about several of the paintings that they used for setups in “Pennies from Heaven.” Steve got the shots in because he’s such a huge Hopper fan.

Also, at the exhibit they pointed out how the buildings in “Early Sunday Morning” are the buildings across the street in “Nighthawks.” Maybe I’m the only one that didn’t know that but I thought it was fascinating that if you just “back up” a little bit from the artist’s perspective in “Early Sunday Morning” you’ll run into the diner on the other side. Yes, I’m a dork. Here’s a link where you can see both paintings: http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/hopper/street/
