Peckinpah On a Thundery Night

Yes, it’s part of a larger project I am working on, and to some degree, I have to watch it (or, I should say, re-watch it). But still. Fun.

    That’s William Holden, no?

  2. red says:

yes! “If they move, kill ’em”

  3. Dan says:

My absolute favorite movie of all time. Forgive me for prying, and you can tell me to MYOB, but is your project Peckinpah related?

  4. red says:

No – Holden related. I will reveal more when it’s ready! a couple of weeks probably

I love that this is your favorite movie of all time. It really did break new ground … I love it, too. And he is so damn good!!

  5. Dan says:

Awesome. Looking forward to it, since oddly enough I’ve watched few Holden films beyond The Wild Bunch. I’m ready to be educated, and my Netflix queue will no doubt thank you as well!

  6. red says:

I’m watching Stalag 17 tomorrow which I love soooo much – I’ve got a whole program of films to watch before I can put pen to paper. You’ve seen Stalag 17 right?? I seem to recall discussing it before, although I could have made that up. God, I love that movie!

  7. Brendan says:

what movie is the above poster from?

  8. red says:

Bren – it’s actually part of the cool opening credits to The Wild Bunch!

  9. Brendan says:

    gotta see it

  10. Well I’m excited. I love William Holden. No one ever played cynical better than Holden, IMO. I could go on but I don’t want to inadvertantly cover anything you’re going to be covering. Although I will just say that no matter what one thinks of the movie, I thought he was great in his final movie “S.O.B.” Oddly enough, I typed in “william holden have I ever lied to you” into Google to see if they would have the full line quoted from that movie (where he says to Felix he has lied and that admitting that should indicate that he’s honest – and only William Holden could make that line work) and guess what the first link is – or you could just type it in and see for yourself. It’s kismet I tell ya.

  11. Dan says:

Yes yes yes, you must see The Wild Bunch! And I must see Stalag 17 since I have yet to watch from start to finish.

  12. red says:

Jonathan – that is so hysterical – I just Googled it and there I am. Ridiculous!!

I love William Holden and I have a couple of things I want to focus on with the guy – one of them being the golden boy good looks of the young man matched with the torment in his soul which had to be just – unbearable at times – and it only became apparent on his face once he becomes older. Anyway: you’re right – NOBODY does cynicism like Holden. Terrific. Terrific actor.
