“He had a way of making a simple walk down a country lane into a Grand Adventure.” — Patricia Flynn, on her husband Errol’s acting ability.
And, just for fun, check out three great stories from Dean Stockwell about Errol Flynn. The two appeared in Rudyard Kipling’s Kim together, and Stockwell was only 12 years old, but his memories are funny and powerful.
Errol Flynn was the epitome of making it look easy.
If you’re ready to sob, watch the clip below, Amanda McBroom singing the song she wrote about her father, who was an actor named David Bruce. The song is called “Errol Flynn.”

Good god, how can she get through that song without crying?
I love your Dean Stockwell writing, especially the Errol Flynn stories. I didn’t recall the ridiculous comment about someone replacing him for the last 60 years (mandroid?). That’s far more bizarre than any Sam/Dean slash.
Happy birthday, Errol.

I know.
“Now I’m older than him.”
It’s that line that kills me every time.
From Stockwell:
“Still, he gave me one of the special lapel buttons he’d had made. It had beautiful hand-carved wings. In the center were three F’s, interlocked. It was “Flynn’s Flying Fucker” club, and the part that went into your lapel had a huge erect cock and balls to hold it in.”
Holy Shit, I want one of these! What a collector’s item.
Todd – I know!!
Let me Google it so I can see it. I can’t believe I never have. I’m actually afraid of what results might come up, though.
Holy crap, when I Google “flynn’s flying fucker club” I am the first result. I am mortified.
HA!! Sheila, this is too funny-I am cracking up right now!
hahaha Horrifying! Like I’m an expert on it or something!
I couldn’t find a photo of one either. Here is your excuse to track down Stockwell!
Road trip to Taos!!
OMG OMG OMG
She wrote that song! I heard it years ago at a cabaret thing-y (Backstage?). David Campbell, an Australian singer, were appearing and Ted Hook (must have been Backstage) insisted he had to be seen. So I walked over from Manhattan Plaza (the West Tower, one and a half very long blocks) one frozen night and I’m so glad I did. I think Campbell put the song on one of his albums. I love her. I should have Goggled the song!
Yes, she wrote it! She’s marvelous – I am amazed she can get through this without crying – I can’t watch it without crying. “Now I’m older than him” slays me.
You’re so lucky you saw her. I suppose I still have a chance: She’s still alive and still performing!
