For Film Comment: on Monte Hellman

Film Comment – the magazine still on hiatus – just launched a weekly newsletter (you can sign up here, it’s free!) They launched with two pieces, one by Molly Haskell, and one by yours truly (and I still kind of can’t even believe that that happened – I’ve been reading Molly’s work since college! – but … moving on).

Both pieces are up on the website now!

My piece on Monte Hellman, focusing mainly on The Shooting, Ride in the Whirlwind and Two-Lane Blacktop. (It’s good to be back. This piece comes almost exactly a year after my last piece appeared in the magazine.)

And here’s Molly Haskell’s beautiful essay (I love her writing so much) on “Moviegoing Then and Now.”
