FINALLY. Off-season is an odd time for me (I don’t know who I am if I don’t see baseball playing on all the televisions in all the bars as I pass by).

Red Sox fans will immediately know what this is, but to the unitiated that is Josh Beckett’s OCD delicate step-step through the first base-line as he leaves the mound. It is so insane to watch him do it. He MUST step between the lines, delicately. Every. Single, Time. Otherwise the entire planet would tip off its axis. I respect that.

Going to a Red Sox game with my cousin Kerry involves this behavior, displayed above.
PLAY BALL.

I’m happy for you, Sheila, and I used to share your passion, but since I’m a native of Pittsburgh and the Pirates are now a farm club and have been for years, I get the feeling you describe when it’s football in autumn.
Enjoy!
Thank you for the reminder, and the lovely pictures. In the midst of recent craziness, I clean forgot about Opening Day.
Love it! Good thing the Sox aren’t opening the season at home, though…foot of snow in Boston overnight and tomorrow…
I love that Kerry counts pitches! So do I! Have to have my own scorecard with me as the ones at the ballpark don’t have enough space to record all the necessary information. :-)
Sad that we gave up our Cubs tickets this year, but just could not justify the expense anymore. :-(
so glad to have baseball back on my radio! yay for nights of listening to vin scully again.
the end of winter is finally in sight. ahhh. joy.
Opening Day: best day of the year, bar none!
I have Jacob Ellsbury on my fantasy team!
Ha!! He’s so great. He’s on my fantasy team in more ways than one, ba-dum-ching.
I miss being able to have the radio on at work and listening to the late, great Bob Murphy calling Mets games. But I’m still very lucky – in fact doubly so. Not only do I get baseball back, but the Mets employ Howie Rose, so when spring training and opening day roll around, the Islanders bring back Jiggs McDonald to call their games.
Thus, in an otherwise-lost season, we get Islanders 6, Rangers (ptui!) 2, with Jiggs behind the mic, and my heart smiles.
Play ball!
Looking forward to a great season. Hope to make it to Fenway at some point. Go Sox!
Gosh, between these photos and “that ocean was alive,” I don’t think I could be more homesick… thanks for the memories!
Sorry about the trouncing! Perfect game weather, fans that were never fans before, total baseball experience. And…Nolan Ryan my hero. Should have come to Texas I live near the stadium. We could have pitched popcorn at eat other while rooting for our teams and watched my son-in-law and fiance makes fools of themselves!!! Gotta LOVE baseball!!
Lisa – fun!!!!!
