Where It’s Quiet

Gearing up for my time in Chicago, and working on another big and percolating project. I could feel it was time to get away for some uninterrupted work/dream time. Internet is spotty where I go, as is cell phone reception. Perfect. It’s also quiet. Frost on the grass. Mist rising off the river at dawn. I wrote all day, took walks, took pictures, took hot baths. Went to bed at 8:30, woke up at 5 a.m. I need to do this more often. But maybe it wouldn’t be as special. I finished my first book at this location in a 5-day spurt of nonstop editing and rewriting. It’s a special place to me. A good luck charm.

  1. We should all be so fortunate to make this time and find these places for ourselves. Congrats to you Sheila for making it a priority. Too many of us (I am very guilty!!) get caught up in our busy, digital, gadget filled lives to stop and look and enjoy. We can’t be bothered to just smell the fresh air, watch a moon lit sky, take in a great movie or just sit quietly and observe. Again all my best to you and I hope you are enjoying this time.

Chuck – it’s so good to recharge sometimes, isn’t it. Of course, I don’t have a young son and infant triplets like you do!!!

Hope you find the time, too, to unplug, unwind!

I am a frequent reader of your blog and a huge fan of your writing. I am glad you have this space to go to, it looks very relaxing. I noticed that depite the spotty Internet you were still able to watch Elvis (at least that looked like it was the Internet). Viva Shelia!

Donna – thank you so much!!

Actually, the Elvis was a DVD on my laptop. I sometimes get Internet on my phone when I’m out there, but it’s totally unreliable. Kinda cool, to unplug!!

    Thanks again.

How beautiful, so peaceful, and yes you need to unplug for awhile. But, not for too long…you’re the only website I look forward to reading daily. Thank you for your beautiful writing. Good luck on the play.
