Olivia Newton John and Hopper/Stockwell

1. “A Little More Love” by Olivia Newton John. I don’t know why I suddenly need (yes: NEED) to hear this song every other minute, but I do. I am transported by it. I’ve been listening to this song since I was a frickin’ grade schooler, but whatever, this week – I have realized: Seriously. I love this song so much. Press “Play” again. And again. And again.

“Wheerree ….
where did my innocence go …”

I think it’s those CHORDS that come after the second line of the verses – after “innocence go …” or in the first verse “draggin’ her feet …” Then: a chord. Two chords! If you know the song, you’ll know the chords of which I speak. I find them to be perfect, and every time I hear them, I feel satisfied. Like: ahhh, that was a moment well-played.

Random. Why suddenly that song?

I try not to question where such things lead me.

“Night is draggin’ her feet
I wait alone in the heat …” CHORD …. CHORD …

And now for Happy Place part 2:

I LOVE that song. That was out when we were in 5th grade..I can identify any pop song that came out that year.wanna know why? because I had mono that year and was out of school for 3 months and listened to the radio A L O T. (when I wasn’t playing chess with Beth)

would a little more love make it right?

  2. red says:

Oh yes. Your year o’ Mono.

I love that you remember all the music from that year. hahahaha

GETS ME NOWHERE … TO TELL YOU NO

    Love it.

There are two songs that take me to my happy place and have since the golden years of my 70s childhood: Diamond Girl and Summer Breeze, both by Seals & Crofts. Whenever I hear the opening notes of either I get all warm and fuzzy inside. Hit play. Hit play again. Again. Okay, just one more time.

I think I’ve found my Koreatown Karaoke song!

  5. Lisa says:

Because, really, how WAS a young girl to know?

  6. red says:

Lisa – hahaha Oh God I so want to see you sing that in Koreatown. Dammit, it must happen.

Aww, Mere, your bedroom upstairs by the back kitchen.(Which eventually got swapped with Jayne- but at that time she had the bedroom that looked out over the back yard and that cool book that told us that every young lady needs to know how to walk properly by balancing a book on her head…. “What to do When and Why”, I believe it was called) It always smelled so clean and like bleach. I still think of your bedroom every time I smell bleach.

I remember that song from my first solo airshift at my first radio station, KEYJ in Jamestown ND, when I was 16…28 years ago tonight!

It was one of the first four or five songs I played in my first hour – i remember that much.

And even though I was deep in the throes of the whole adolescent punk-rock thing, I kinda liked it too. It had a hook you could hang a side of beef on.

Gaah. I have to post about that.

  9. red says:

Mitch – the fact that you liked the song is praise indeed! You are SO right about the “hook” – great point.

Every song needs one. For me, it’s those two random chords that almost sound like they come from outer space. You know the ones I mean??
